ChennaiA 22-year-old nurse committed suicide in the hospital she worked in at Madipakkam by injecting herself with a high dose of vecuronium bromide, an adjunct to general anaesthesia.

The police identified the deceased as M. Dhanalakshmi of Nagercoil. She was on night duty at Saraswathi hospital in Ram Nagar and injected herself with 12 mg of the drug, the police said, after going through the CCTV footages in the ICU area, on Sunday.

Half mg of the drug is enough for patients, but she had administered 12 mg to kill herself, the police explained. She killed herself around 1 am. Earlier, around 11 pm, she had spoken to her mother over phone and informed her family that everything was fine.

She had not left behind any suicide note. “It is not clear if she had a relationship issue or killed herself because of any kind debt trap,” the police said. She was staying in the facility provided by the hospital on the same premises.
