America and Telangana have good relations in several areas, US Ambassador to India tells KCR

Hyderabad: US Ambassador to India Richard Verma discussed several issues of mutual interest with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during a meeting here on Tuesday as both leaders sought to deepen bilateral ties.

The two leaders reviewed the progress of construction of new the US Consulate building here, a release from Chief Minister's Office said.

Responding to Rao's observations that many students from Telangana are studying in American Universities and many Telangana natives are employed in the US, the release quoted the Ambassador as saying that America and Telangana has good relations in several areas.

Verma said the spare parts for American President's helicopter are made in Hyderabad. Verma appreciated the development initiatives of the Telangana government, it said.

Rao, who explained about his government's development efforts, said Hyderabad is home to several industries, including defence products, mainly because of its convenient climatic conditions throughout the year.

The state government has brought out a new industrial policy aimed at attracting investors, Rao said.

Many American companies are investing in the state and the policies of the Telangana government are being looked at, Verma said. He enquired about the availability of power in Telangana and was told that the state had some deficit as of now, but it would become a surplus state in 2-3 years.

The US Ambassador also asked about the Centre-State relations in India and whether states had involvement in the issue of plans, the release said.

In his response, the chief minister said Telangana enjoyed amicable relations with the Centre and the state government welcomed setting up of the 'NITI Ayog' which promoted state's participation.

Rao also briefed Verma about his government's development efforts in various fields, it added.
