DTPC plans regular paragliding at Vagamon
Geographical location an advantage, say authorities
KOTTAYAM: The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) in Idukki is planning regular paragliding programs at Kolahalamedu near Vagamon.
The paragliding carnival is presently conducted once a year and the authorities hope the new initiative to give the adventure sport a big boost.
Idukki (DTPC) secretary K. A. Francis said the geographical location of the place was favourable to the sport.
“The place has the advantage of its location. We have also decided to buy equipment for conducting paragliding regularly,” Mr Francis told DC. The DTPC would also train local people as paragliding pilots. A training school is also planned for it.
“Right now, there are only three paragliding pilots in the Idukki district. Four will be trained in a batch and they will be trained in all advanced techniques,” said Mr Francis. He hopes to commence the program by October. The government will also be requested to allot funds.
