Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said  that life histories of Telangana Dalit icons like Eashwari Bai and Bhagya Reddy Varma would be incorporated in the school curriculum in the state.

Speaking at a  function held at Ravindra Bharati on Tuesday, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao said, “We  will incorporate the life history of the firebrand political leader Eashwari Bai in the school curriculum along with  all Dalit icons of the state,” he said.

Retired IAS official P.S. Krishnan was awarded the Eashwari Bai Memorial Award for this year on Saturday.  Mr Krishnan,  who worked  relentlessly   to uplift the marginalised and impoverished Dalits, also lauded the government. “Some of the schemes initiated by the government like  offering three acres land to Dalits are praiseworthy,” he said.

The CM responded by saying a modest start  had been made and the state government would get even more ambitious in the future. Eashwari Bai’s daughter, former minister J. Geeta Reddy said about her mother, “She was a firebrand leader who who wanted to be the people’s voice. She  proposed free education for girls.”
