Ranji Trophy: 40-time Ranji champions Mumbai all out for 44
Karnataka pacer Vinay Kumar (6/20) rattles Mumbaikars in semifinal
Bangalore: While the world is busy concentrating on ICC World Cup 2015, India’s domestic cricket giants – Mumbai – reached a new low in their Ranji Trophy semifinal against Karnataka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday.
The 40-time Ranji champions – now led by Aditya Tare – were wrapped up for a paltry 44 in their first innings, in reply to Karnataka’s 202.
Indian Premier League’s new buy, Shreyas Iyer, top-scored with 15. Vinay Kumar rattled the batsmen claiming six wickets for 20 runs.
Batting first, Robin Uthappa set the Karnataka innings with a smart 68 off 100 balls (4 X 10, 6 X 1) before Shardul Thakur (4/61) ran through the middle-order. Karun Nair remained unbeaten on 49.
However, Mumbai is yet to beat Hyderabad in the lowest total race. In 2010, Rajasthan had bundled Hyderabad for 21. In 1915-16, Mohammedans were also all out for 21 against Bombay Quadrangular in Indian cricket’s first-class history.
But the match is not yet over for Mumbai. Karnataka – coming into the middle again – lost two wickets in quick succession.
Brief scores: Karnataka 202 in 60.2 overs (R Uthappa 68; S Thakur 4/61) & 10/2 in 5 overs against Mumbai 44 in 15.3 overs (S Iyer 15; R Vinay Kumar 6/20)
