New Delhi: Amid the controversy surrounding Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's leave and him being elevated as party chief, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said that when Rahul will be made the President of the party, everyone will be informed.

Rahul Gandhi's sabbatical to reflect upon the future course of the party could be a prelude to his elevation as the Congress President.

There have been indications that Rahul, who is currently the vice-president, could be made the party chief later this year as the tenure of Congress President Sonia Gandhi comes to an end in September.

Sonia Gandhi has been the longest-serving Congress President since 1998, when she took over the reins of the party from Sitaram Kesri.

Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath endorsed Rahul's takeover of the 130-year-old party.

"I think that the time has come where Rahul Gandhi must be given the full responsibility. He must shoulder the responsibility and then it is up to him to succeed or fail," Kamal Nath said.
