Fire at school, arson suspected

Medchal police said that no students were injured in the incident

Hyderabad: Fire broke out at the Niraj International School at Kandlakoya in Medchal on Thursday creating panic among students. The fire broke out in a room where the school kept its furniture. The police suspect that someone intentionally started the fire.

Medchal police said that no students were injured in the incident. However furniture worth lakhs were destroyed in the fire. Fire officials said the fire erupted after 11 am and one fire tender from Medchal rushed to the spot. “The fire tender reached the spot and put out the fire in an hour,” said Jeedimetla fire officer A. Sridhar Reddy.

The room is located on the third floor and there is no power supply in it. “There are no electric cables in the room. So there is no question of a short circuit. It looks like someone lit the fire,” said a police official. The cops booked a case based on a complaint from the school.
