Budget 2015: Second unit of Kudankulam nuclear power station by 2015-16

Renewable energy target increased to 1,75,000 MW

Mumbai: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday announced that the second unit of Kudankulam nuclear power station in Tamil Nadu would be commissioned in 2015-16. He also proposes to set up 5 ultra mega power projects, each of 4000 MW, which will be plug and play projects.

Unit 1 of the Kudankulam plant, set up with Russian collaboration near here, achieved full power in June, 2014 and has so far generated 2825 megawatts electricity.

Further promoting clean and energy Finance Minister also announced that his government will increase renewable energy target to 1,75,000 MW.
