Union Budget 2015: IIM, IIT to be set up in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka

Jaitley also proposed establishment of AIIMS in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: Presenting the government's first full-year Budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday spelt out good news for the education sector. Jaitley proposed the establishment of premium institutions like AIIMS, IITs and IIMs across states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Punjab and many more.

Here’s what we can expect from the education sector in the next five years:

·    AIIMS in Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Assam.
·    Another AIIMS-like institution in Bihar.
·    IIT in Karnataka and ISM Dhanbad upgraded to IIT
·    IIMs in Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir
·    Centre for Film Production and Animation in Arunachal Pradesh.

Jaitley also proposed to set-up an IT based student financial aid system under the PM ‘Vidya Laxmi’ scheme to ensure that no student misses out on higher education due to lack of funds.

A fully IT based student financial aid scheme for higher education is also on the cards.

A total of Rs. 68,968 crore has been allotted to the education sector in the Union Budget 2015.
