VHP seeks ‘Hindu Rashtra’
PM Modi had recently said that his government’s only religion is ‘India first’
New Delhi: Putting the record straight on Hindutva issue and making it clear that the VHP will not toe the line of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on it, VHP leader Pravin Togadia on Sunday exhorted Hindus to unite if they want to remain secured in the country and advocated Indian Constitution to describe India as a “Hindu rashtra.” He also demanded a ban on religious conversion and raked up the Ram Mandir issue. Mr Modi had recently said that his government’s only religion is “India first” and “nobody has the right to discriminate on the basis of religion” after his government and the ruling BJP came under heavy criticism over attack on churches. Asking Hindus to unite, Mr Togadia gave the slogan “Hamari biradari anaek, hamare poorvaj ek,” stressing India is the land of Hindus.
Mr Togadia also said there was nothing wrong in the “ghar wapsi (re-conversion)” campaign.
He was addressing a massive gathering of the “Virat Hindu Sammelan” to mark the golden jubilee of the VHP in New Delhi.
BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy said that Hindu population should never come down to less than 80 per cent if the country wants democracy democracy, unity and religious tolerance to prosper.
