Hyderabad: A woman GHMC contract worker stole a baby from a homeless couple as her daughter-in-law could not have a child, police said.
They kidnapped the infant while she was sleeping beside her father on the footpath at King Koti. Police arrested the abductors on Tuesday.
Police identified the accused as Gosangi Saiamma, 50, sweeper contractor with GHMC, and her daughter-in-law Gosangi Babam-ma from PJR Nagar Housing Board, Kukatpally.
According to police, the duo came to King Koti on February 26, at around 3.30 am, as part of their job and noticed that her father was deep asleep and found the infant beside him.
“Taking advantage of the situation, they kidnapped the girl and hid her at their house at Kukatpally,” said Narayanguda police inspector S. Bheem Reddy.
During interrogation, Saimma said her elder son G. Hanujmanth had married Babamma around 10 years ago but the couple was childless. In order to bring up a child, they stole the girl from the footpath.
Police has booked a case against the kidnappers and sent them to judicial custody.
