18 cases of 'honour killing' registered in 2014: Govt
Collection of data on honour killings has started since January last year on a monthly basis
New Delhi: A total of 18 cases of 'honour killing' were registered in 2014, Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said as per information provided by the National Crime Records Bureau, collection of data on honour killings has started since January last year on a monthly basis.
"Hence, there is no available data for the last three years. A total of 18 cases were registered under 'honour killing' during 2014," he said.
Replying another question, Chaudhary said as per information available with NCRB, a total of 33,052 cases and 38,172 cases and 58,224 cases were registered under crime against children in 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively, showing an increasing trend.
Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said replying to a question that from 2011 to February 2015, a total of 1,240 Pakistanis and 1,047 Afghanistan nationals have applied for Indian citizenship.
Citizenship certificates have been issued to 1,238 Pakistani nationals and 468 Afghanistan nationals, he said.
