Telangana crime sleuths release a list of don’ts to warn citizens
Hyderabad: The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has released a list of “don'ts” for the public in order to prevent people from being victims of cyber attacks.
The list includes the kind of calls and emails people should reject in order to avoid cyber criminals.
Phone calls which should be avoided include calls from unknown persons trying to sell gold at cheap rates, calls (or missed calls) from +92 numbers (Pakistan), calls about winning lotteries, calls asking for PIN numbers, calls about IT refunds asking for bank details, insurance refunds, calls from alleged bank representative asking for password or PIN numbers and other security questions, etc.
Other communications through phone and email which should be avoided include SMS or email informing people that they have won millions of dollars or pounds, job offers through SMS and email without confirming from the HR department of the company, online job offers asking for passport detains and emails about loan without any guarantees asking for processing fees.
Cops also caution people to be aware of cons who try to sell black coated money that become dollars when dipped in chemicals, work from home advertisements which ask for deposits, and of branded and costly items for cheaper prices.
The CID has also warned people about sharing hate messages on social media as it is a cognizable offence under the IT Act, as is sending obscene SMS or emails.
