TRS wants High Court to be bifurcated
TRS said AP Reorganisation Act mentions that HC has to be bifurcated for two states
New Delhi: Lamenting that nothing has moved in the past nine months after the state bifurcation, the TRS on Tuesday demanded in the Lok Sabha that the High Court in Hyderabad be bifurcated immediately to enable Telangana have its own High Court.
TRS Floor Leader A.P. Jithender Reddy and party MP B. Vinod Kumar raised the issue on the Floor of the House immediately after the Lok Sabha convened for the day.
Though Speaker Sumitra Mahajan rejected the adjournment motion given by the TRS, she allowed both Mr Reddy and Mr Kumar to raise the issue before taking up Question
Hour.
Mr Reddy said the AP Reorganisation Act mentions that the High Court has to be bifurcated for the two states.
“But it is almost nine-and-a-half months that we have been going from pillar to post to each and every department. Our CM has met the Prime Minister three times regarding this. He has also met the Chief Justice of India and requested that a bifurcation should take place,” Mr Reddy said.
The TRS MP also said the Bar Councils of both the states had met Union law minister Sadananda Gowda and requested him to bifurcate the HC soon because a lot of cases are pending.
“It is not only that, but a notification has been issued for recruitment of new junior judges by which the new generation of advocates of Telangana will be affected. We have been asking them not to do this. This type of recruitment should be taken up only after bifurcation but they have not allowed that. All the advocates of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have boycotted it,” Mr Reddy said.
Intervening, parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said he shared the sentiments expressed by Mr Jithender Reddy and that Mr Gowda was already dealing with this matter.
“It has to be agreed upon by the state governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and also by the High Court. There is a little sensitivity involved in this. But I fully share the sentiments expressed on this issue. I will convey it to the minister and ask him to expedite the process to the extent possible,” he said.
Mr Kumar said the law minister had stated that the replies from the governments of AP and the Chief Justice of the High Court had not been received yet.
“They are not responding. It is very unfortunate. Two days back, we met the law minister. He said that he cannot do anything further,” he said.
