Hyderabad: The Telangana state government wants schools to remain open on June 2, when summer holidays are usually on, to celebrate the state’s first Formation Day in a grand manner. To bypass the issue, the government is considering altering the entire academic schedule so that schools are open on June 2. The academic calendar would have to be changed so that schools reopen earlier than usual.
Sources said that nothing had been finalised yet and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked officials to find the best way out of the problem. The Chief Minister has instructed officials that June 2 should be celebrated in a grand manner involving schools as well. The NDA government has also used the same strategy, asking education institutions to celebrate certain days like Unity and Good Governance Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had even aired a speech to school students on Teachers Day.
According to the Telangana academic calendar for schools, summer holidays are from April 24 to June 11. In private schools, it stretches beyond that.
“The Chief Minister is very keen that the State Formation Day be celebrated in a grand manner invo-lving school students. We can have competitions, debates, quizzes on the history of TS,” sources said.
The Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is keen on a grand celebration for the State Formation day.
“The State Formation Day would be in the midst of summer holidays so the schedule has to be changed. We can move it so schools can re-open earlier. But nothing has been finalised. The Chief Minister has asked for the best solution,” CMO sources said.
“We have not received any information yet. But if they are considering the proposal it is logical to advance the academic calendar,” a senior school education department official said.
