Telangana Budget Session: Minister tells woman MLA not to indulge in ‘dadagiri’
Congress MLA D K Aruna asked a TRS legislator ‘to shut up’
Hyderabad: Chaos erupted in the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Tuesday as Opp-osition Congress legislators and TRS legislators traded abuses.
Congress legislator D.K. Aruna and IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao later apologised to the House for using un-Parliamentary language after floor leaders reviewed the footage to find who was at fault.
Congress legislators had earlier squatted on the Assembly floor stating that the TRS had insulted women and didn’t respect them.
Chief Minister Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao advised ministers to show restraint while also saying that “some people” were provoking ministers to portray that Telangana legislators could not run the Assembly.
Proceedings went awry when former minister and Congress Gadwal MLA D.K. Aruna sought a reply to her question from irrigation minister T. Harish Rao.
To which only panchayat raj and IT minister K.T. Rama Rao and roads and buildings minister T. Nageswara Rao replied to her. She then asked a TRS legislator “to shut up” when the member interrupted her speech. To this Mr Rao said she should not indulge in “Mahbubnagar dadagiri.”
Ms Aruna also threw her headphones and damaged the microphone.
Congress legislators objected to the remarks made by the minister and squatted on the floor of the House. They alleged that the TRS disrespected women and the lack of Cabinet berths for women proved that.
Mr Rama Rao said women didn’t find Cabinet berths “for other reasons”. Energy minister Mr G. Jagdish Reddy also apologised.
