Nizamabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will formally launch the Mission Kakatiya programme, aimed at restoration of water tanks, at Sadashivanagar mandal headquarters on March 12. The project is estimated to cost Rs 25,000 crore over the next four years. Mr Rao will reach the venue at Patha Cheruvu (old water tank) by helicopter at 10.30 am on Thursday and participate in removal of silt programme along with labourers.
After launching the programme, Mr Rao will address a public meeting near the lake. The government had decided to launch Mission Kakatiya in Warangal district by inviting Union minister for water resources Uma Bharati. The venue was shifted to Nizamabad district as the election code of conduct is in force in Warangal for the MLC elections.
Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao visited Yellareddy Assembly constituency including Sadashivanagar mandal and had checked the condition of water tanks on Friday.
It is believed that following the inputs from Mr Harish Rao, the CM decided to launch Mission Kakatiya in Nizamabad. In the backdrop of the awareness meeting on Mission Kakatiya programme by Mr Harish Rao in Nizamabad recently, irrigation officials expedited the works. They have begun issuing tenders to allocate work to restore water tanks.
Jukkal TRS MLA Hanmanth Shinde said that project would change the economy of Telangana villages. Recalling his services as an engineer in the irrigation department before entering politics, Mr Shinde said that participation of people in the programme is needed. The district administration has made arrangements for the Chief Minister’s meeting.
District collector D. Ronald Rose, superintendent of police S. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Yellareddy MLA E. Ravinder Reddy camped at Sadashivnagar. TRS leaders were busy mobilising people, particularly farmers, to make the public meeting a success.
