Xiaomi launches Redmi 2, MiPad in India

Xiaomi MiPad is priced at Rs 12,999, Redmi 2 will be available for Rs 6,999

At an event today, Xiaomi launched the much-awaited MiPad, along with the Redmi 2. Priced light on the pocket, the Xiaomi MiPad will be available for Rs 12,999 and the Redmi 2 for Rs 6,999. Both the products will go on sale on March 24th, and the registration for buying the Redmi 2 begins today (March 12) after 6PM. Xiaomi MiPad, however, requires no registration.

The new MiPad tablet sports a 7.9-inch IPS display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The MIUI tablet is powered by a Tegra K1 processor with four cores clocked at 2.2 GHz with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, which is expandable up to 128GB using a microSD card. The tablet also features an 8MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera.

The Redmi 2 sports the similar build and size to the Redmi 1S. The only difference is the chipset and the radio. Running on Android 4.4 based MIUI 6 operating system, the Redmi 2 is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 quad core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card.

The smartphone sports a 4.7-inch IPS HD laminated display with AGC Dragontrail glass. It also features an 8MP primary camera and a 2MP front facing camera. On its official Facebook page, Xiaomi has stated that a 16GB variant of Redmi 2 will soon be made available in India.
