Things you must know about Apple iOS 8.2 before you go for the upgrade!
Apple iOS 8.2 has its own share of glitches, but it’s worth a download
Apple this week released the iOS 8.2 software update and it is the biggest iOS 8 upgrade yet. Expecting a lot of iOS 8 issues and bugs to be fixed, Apple users have been eagerly waiting for this update. However, before you go for the upgrade you need to know if you are ready for what iOS 8.2 has in store for you, and if you really need it. So let’s break this down into the ‘clinchers’ and the ‘deal breaking’ features of the iOS 8.2.
The fringe benefits
Being one of the major upgrades by Apple, the iOS 8.2 brings with it some big addition to the operating system.
Apple Watch
All the Apple devices running on iOS 8.2 (except for the iPhone 4s) are now compatible with the Apple Watch. The new update brings with it an automatically installed Apple Watch companion app that will allow users to sync their iPhone with the Watch.
Bluetooth connectivity issues
Apple users were facing Bluetooth connectivity issues for a while now, where making calls over Bluetooth gave major problems. The iOS 8.2 update has fixed that issue.
Health kit
The new iOS update also fixed various bugs with the Health Kit. The health app is now able to add and evoke workout data from third party ‘health and fitness’ apps. The app now also allows a user to turn off the motion and fitness tracking.
Stability enhancement
The iOS 8.2 has also addressed some stability issues of apps like Mail, Maps and Music. The latest software update has fixed issues in Maps that prevented navigating to some favourite locations. The VoiceOver feature is now much more reliable. And the connectivity with the Made for iPhone hearing aids is a lot better.
The Apple iOS 8.2 also fixed issues with iTunes where some music or playlists didn’t sync from iTunes to the Music app. Additionally, the timezone issue has also been fixed where the Calender events appeared in GMT.
The Hiccups
The mandatory Apple watch app
Although, the new pre-installed Apple Watch app is exciting, but for the people who do not wish to buy one, it is really forced upon them, since the app cannot be removed. Also, for people using iPhones with 8GB and 16GB of storage, the mandatory Apple Watch app may cause storage space issues.
WiFried
The infamous Apple bug, ‘WiFried’, continues even after the iOS 8.2 update. The WiFried caused major Wi-Fi connectivity hitches on most Apple devices, where the wireless performance would either be broken or entirely corrupt.
Battery drain
To top all of that, the iOS 8.2 is taking a major toll on the battery life of the iPhone. The users have been experiencing the battery draining faster than the usual. Presumably, it is the various improvements and feature additions that are causing the strain on the battery.
Although, the Apple iOS 8.2 has its share of glitches, but it also has some useful feature additions, bug fixes and performance improvements. Overall the new iOS upgrade looks like a success, and we suggest Apple users to go for the update!
