Hyderabad: For passport applicants in the Cyberabad police commissionerate limits, tablet-wielding Special Branch officials will visit them much quicker than expected for verification.

The Cyberabad police has launched a digital passport verification system, which will speed up the process and will be completely error-free.

Cyberabad commissioner of police C.V. Anand said that the police verification process for passports will now take only three days instead of the earlier 13.

Every verifying officer will now be provided with a tablet with Internet facility and relevant software.

Seventy tablets have been bought at the cost of Rs 16 lakh through a tender process, the officials stated.

As a part of the digitisation process, all verifying officers are connected to the CP’s office.

“They will verify the applicants physically and submit their reports in the prescribed format to the unit office online within three days. On receipt of intelligence clearance, the reports will be uploaded to the official website of the RPO, Hyderabad instantly,” said officials.

The officials added that the number of applicants have increased to 95,000 in 2014 against 88,000 in 2013. This new system will ensure corruption free and complaint free verification.
