Mumbai: While comic collective All India Backch*d may have a million supporters (the Collective’s YouTube Channel recently hit a million subscribers), there are a few out there who beg to differ.
At a recent event, Abish Matthews who was a part of AIB's controversial Roast, had to face the wrath of some angry college students after they found the nature of his jokes very offensive. According to a report in a daily, the comedian was performing at New Law University’s annual fest Kairos in New Delhi, when a couple of students walked out of the show.
The students then returned with placards that read ‘Get out, you sexist pig’. The report also stated that Matthews spoke to the students who eventually left without creating any further trouble. Matthews cracked a number of jokes about women driving, using social media, Punjabi women etc.
This incident comes as a huge shock especially after AIB had got tremendous support on social media when they were forced to pull down their controversial show featuring Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. AIB also touched a new high when they received the golden YouTube play button for reaching a milestone of 1 million subscribers on their channel.
Jokes are meant to be funny and not to be taken seriously. Reportedly, Abish maintained his cool and handled the situation pretty well. He concluded the show by saying, “Clearly I’ve overstayed my welcome".
Do you think the students overreacted to someone who was invited to perform and make people laugh?
