Mumbai: Team India’s defeat in the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has not gone down too well with fans in the country. Fans initially blamed Anushka Sharma for her beau Virat Kohli’s poor form at the England Tour last year, and it hasn’t stopped there, they are now pointing fingers at the star for Virat’s one run score.

Pictures of fans burning effigies of the ‘Nh10’ actress have made their way on the internet. According to Twitter members of The Congress and National Student Union of India (NSUI) set Anushka’s effigy on fire in Gwalior, to protest against India’s loss.

Several memes and viral trolls have also been doing the rounds on social media, blaming Anushka for the disappointing defeat. Earlier in an interview the actress made it clear that her relationship with Kohli has nothing to do with their professional  careers.

“Why is that person a distraction? What! Because you are attaching a physical relationship? I found that extremely primitive and distasteful to use that word. That’s because of the background I come from, for me it’s like ‘who talks like that?’.”

She further said, "And then you are doubting the capability of these people who are playing since they were children, that’s all they know. If you meet these guys, they don’t know anything other than cricket. They breathe, eat, live, die cricket. So you are saying they are not capable to deal with their career. Give them credit for what they have achieved.”

It’s sad to see an entire nation gang up on a supportive girlfriend, who flew all the way to Australia from India to see her beau play. The actress definitely does not deserve this kind of disrespect.

Several B'towners also showed their support to Anushka on Twitter. Take a look:
