Hyderabad: A robber armed with a pistol opened fire in the air, threatened a woman postmaster and robbed her at gunpoint at Vanaparthy in Mahbubnagar district on Thursday. The victim, who was going to distribute pensions was carrying Rs 1.5 lakh. The robber planned the act and had waited for her on the way wearing a mask and goggles.

The incident occurred in the morning when the official Sirisha was on the way to a village named Kasimpuram Tanda.

“She was travelling on a bike with her brother. On the way the robber stopped them and threatened them with a firearm. He also fired in the air. He took the money bag and rode away on his bike,” said Mahbubnagar SP Mr P. Vishwa Prasad

Police officials who visited the spot recovered two bullet cartridges. "We suspect the robber must have used a country pistol. The victims noted his bike number and we have started tracking it," said the SP.  The officials also said that the robber appeared to be a local who knew the postmaster would come to the village to distribute pensions. “He is six foot tall and was found waiting Wednesday evening in the same area. The victim was supposed to distribute pension on Wednesday, but since it was late she came on Thursday. He knew her movements,” said Mr Prasad.
