Hyderabad: Large parts of the city could go without drinking water on April 4, when the Water Board plans to shut down the Krishna water drinking supply Phases I and II. The two phases supply 180 million gallons per day to the twin cities.

The Water Board is taking the supply outage to inter-connect the Krishna water drinking supply phase III to bring an additional 45 MGD of water to the city.

“It has become evitable to take this shutdown to bring the additional water which is urgently required to meet the shortage during the summer,” a Water Board official said. To mitigate hardship to consumers, the Board has asked chief general managers at the circle level and general managers of divisions to ensure that sufficient water is stored in reservoirs ahead of April 4 to fill up tankers. Meetings would be conducted with colony welfare associations and residents would be asked to store water in advance.

Local MLAs and public representatives have been informed as well. Bulk consumers including hospitals, schools and emergency services are being asked to store water in advance. General managers at the divisions have been asked to brief the staff regarding the shutdown and keep them ready to regulate water distribution after the commencement of Phase III.

Arrangements are also being made to keep a sufficient number of water tankers in each division to meet demand. A temporary control room is being opened at the Board office at Khairatabad to receive complaints and to send relief immediately. The phone numbers are 9989995690 and 9989990824.

The affected areas under Krishna Phase I are Narayanguda, Barkahpura, Nallakunta, Musheerabad, Nimboliadda, Adikmet, Shivam, Chilkalguda, Boggulakunta, Mahboob Mansion, Vinaynagar, As-mangadh, Chanchal-guda, Barkas, Chandrayangutta and Santhoshnagar.
