CM K Chandrasekhar Rao vows to make Telangana power surplus

Khammam: The Telangana state will be able to produce 24,000 MW of power — including solar, thermal and hydel — by March, 2018. The state will become a power-surplus state by 2017.

On Saturday, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that about Rs 91,500 crore is being invested for the construction of power projects in Telangana and an agreement had been reached between the Rural Electrification Corporation and the Power Finance Corporation for Rs 40,000 crore worth power production.

The CM said another agreement was reached between the PFC and TSGenco for power transmission in the state.

He disclosed these details after laying the foundation stone of the Bhadradri Thermal Power Project (BTPP) near Manuguru.  BTPP will have a capacity of 1,080MW.

“BHEL has promised to complete BTPP within 24 months and I will come to inaugurate it as well”, he said.

Referring to the available of power, Rao said two thermal power projects, with capacity of 2,000 MW will start production by the end of this year and another 600 MW project at Bhupalapalli, in Warangal, will start next year.

He said that the government had an agreement with BHEL on construction of the Bhadradri Power Project.

He invited the IT companies and industrialists to set their units in Telangana and offered to supply uninterrupted power to them.

He said that Telangana is facing problems due to the indifferent attitude of past governments. He said that the Transco will ensure 24-hour power supply in the coming years.

He praised Genco and Transco for supplying uninterrupted power during exams.

“People want working governments... not a government that only issues statements,” he said.
