Hyderabad: Medak police on Monday picked up a 19-year-old from Toopran for allegedly trying to recruit people for a banned local Islamic outfit and for "researching" on terrorist organisations like the IS. Police is also checking if he had plans to receive terror training abroad. Medak police officials said that they let the young man off after a brief interrogation and counselling.

They said that an official arrest will be done after further investigation. Amer Mohiuddin, a polytechnic student in Medak, had been under the police scanner for suspicious activities. “We had earlier booked a case against him for a hate speech. Later, we received information that he was mobilising youngsters,” said a senior police official.

According to Mohiuddin's family members, a few men in plane cloths came to their house, and forcefully took him away. The men did not reveal that they are from police. Later the relatives lodged a complaint with the Toopran police alleging kidnap. However, the district police officials confirmed that the youngster was picked up. Medak SP Ms. B. Sumathi said that the police is investigating the charges against him.
