The 17-year old student’s reply goes viral
United States: On receiving a rejection letter from the Duke University, 17-year-old Siobhan O’Dell from North Carolina sent back a reply, rejecting their letter. O’Dell’s letter, which went viral on social media, will now be published in the Duke University’s own newspaper, according to UK’s Metro.
In her response to the university, she stated, “I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal.”
"I wanted to give colleges a taste of their own medicine," O'Dell told CBS News. "I had no idea the response would be this huge."
Duke University, meanwhile, replied saying, O'Dell could appeal the decision by sending a letter or email to the Admissions Committee.
O'Dell said that the purpose of the letter was simply to get few friends to laugh. She aslo stated that she was surprised to see Duke responded to her email.
According to CBS news, O'Dell does not plan on appealing. She has already committed to University of South Carolina, the report stated.
