Newborn dies in freak mishap after woman delivers baby on concrete floor

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a woman who was in labour gave birth as she stepped out of the Koti Maternity Hospital on Sunday. The baby fell on the concrete floor and died immediately of head injuries.

Sources said, Sumalatha, a worker, had came with severe pains to the hospital. She did not have the hospital card or any other papers and the paramedical staff and the doctors took down her details, which took time. The woman then stepped out of the hospital to get some of her luggage.

“The baby fell from the womb on the floor,” sources said. The child died instantly. Her husband and mother-in-law who were along with her staged a protest and said the incident took place due to the lethargy of the hospital authorities. They alleged that instead of admitting Sumalatha immediately the staff was asking for details.

A crowd gathered outside the hospital as the woman sat with the baby outside the hospital. There were no senior doctors at the hospital.
