Mumbai: Child sexual abuse has never been an easy subject to discuss. It takes a lot of courage to come out and speak about the traumatising past. But opening up is the first step to building a better future.
‘Delhi Belly’ actress Poorna Jagannathan recently shared her dark past and recalled being molested while using public transport in broad daylight. The three-minute video titled ‘Breaking the Cycle of Violence’ is a part of a campaign by WEvolve Global.
The organisation empowers young men and women to challenge and break through societal norms that lead to gender-based violence.
While efforts to tackle gender violence vary, WEvolve focuses on the causes of gender violence and looks to understand and address the social norms and deeply engrained cultural values at the root of it. This includes understanding the motivations of the perpetrators and exploring family and decision-making, privacy, youth sexuality, male female honour, the unacceptability of divorce, and expectations of child obedience.
