Telangana State Day too hot for schools
Formation Day plans to advance holidays dropped
Hyderabad: Telangana State Formation Day will be celebrated in schools and colleges in the last week of June. The TS Cabinet on Tuesday decided not to hold celebrations in schools on June 2 as the weather is expected to be extremely hot in the first week of June.
All government institutions and offices, however, will celebrate State Formation Day on June 2.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had earlier discussed the possibility of celebrating the State Formation Day in schools and colleges across the state on June 2. To facilitate that, the entire academic schedule had to be advanced and schools had to reopen on June 1, instead of June 12. However, the Cabinet decided to defer Formation Day celebrations in schools and educational institutions to the last week of June.
“We had earlier discussed about celebrating Formation Day in a big way in schools on June 2. But the Cabinet decided to shift the celebrations in schools to the last week of June because students would not be able to bear the heat in the first week of June,” sources close to the Chief Minister said. A government release said essay and elocution competitions would be held in schools to mark the Formation Day
The government had earlier decided to advance the final exams for students of Classes I to IX to April 1, instead of April 15. The High Court upheld the schedule despite private schools’ plea against it.
Government offices and institutions will hold a week-long celebrations from June 2 till June 8. Government institutions will hoist the National Flag on June 2. The state government will also release about Rs 20 crore for the celebrations.
Meanwhile, sources said that the Cabinet did not discuss the new school curriculum.
It was reported earlier that the Cabinet would discuss and approve the new curriculum during the Cabinet meet as the printing of the textbooks is to begin on Wednesday. “Textbooks were not discussed in the Cabinet meeting. The topic didn’t come up at all. Anyway, the issue does not need Cabinet approval,” sources said.
