Hyderabad: Employees working in distilleries and breweries in Telangana have complained to the TS government that the managements have been removing them from their jobs on “regional grounds” since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

A majority of the distilleries and breweries located in Telangana are owned by AP managements. Employees have sought priority for locals in jobs in these liquor-manufacturing units.

Currently, there are 17 distilleries in TS and all of them, barring one in Nizamabad, are owned by AP managements. While most of the eight breweries in the state are owned by North India-based managements, the top positions are occupied by individuals from AP.

“Before the bifurcation, key positions in distilleries and breweries, like managers and distributors, were held by TS staff. After the bifurcation, the managements slowly starting removing TS staff and appointed staff from AP,” alleged P. Devender, a TS employee.

Employees have brought this to the notice of the Telangana excise minister T. Padma Rao. They said that even the posts of dispatch clerks were being filled with staff from AP, mainly from Nellore.

They have urged the minister to talk to managements of distilleries and breweries and ensure justice to Telangana staff.
