Hyderabad High Court pulls up Andhra Pradesh over killings
Post-mortem of bodies of the victims was conducted as per the guidelines framed by the SC and NHRC
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday asked the additional advocate general of Andhra Pradesh D. Srinivas why a case of unnatural deaths was not registered with regard to the encounter in which 20 woodcutters hired by red sander smugglers were killed in the Seshachalam forests on Tuesday.
While replying in the negative, Mr Srinivas said that the government had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and the National Human Rights Commission had issued notice to the AP government regarding to the encounter.
Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Just-ice P.V. Sanjay Kumar dealing with a petition moved by Chilaka Chandra Sekhar, general secretary of the Civil Liberties Committee, seeking a direction to book a murder case against the police personnel involved in the encounter and also to order a CBI probe.
Mr Srinivas submitted a report of the DGP as sought by the court on the incident and told the court that two cases were registered on a complaint filed by the police, who were at the spot. He said that the post-mortem of bodies of the victims was conducted as per the guidelines framed by the SC and NHRC.
