Lucknow: After a majestic Ambedkar Memorial, Lucknow will soon get the tallest statue of Dr B. R. Ambedkar.

According to Amarnath Prajapati, a well-known sculptor who is making the statue, the total height of the statue (including its pedestal or base) is likely to be 150 feet. Of this, the height of the statue would be 125 feet, which is taller than the Statue of Liberty, which is 111 feet or 33.86 metre high. The Ambedkar statue will also beat the famous 39.6 metre high

Christ Redeemer statue located in Rio de Janerio in Brazil. The total cost is likely to be in the range of Rs 20-25 crore.

The initial work on the project has begun and on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti on Tuesday, Mr Prajapati would be presenting the miniature replica of the statute at the Ambedkar Mahasabha, where it is likely to be unveiled by either the Governor or the Chief Minister.

Mr Prajapati, who was unwilling to disclose more details of the project, said he was planning to install the statue in Babasaheb City (proposed either at Faizabad Road or Sitapur Road) measuring 50 bighas, which will be the site for a number of institutes.

“It is my dream to make a statue of Babasaheb in a foreign country,” said the sculptor who is joined by about 150 volunteers.

Mr Prajapati said that the statue would first be made of concrete and gradually covered by a layer of metal.
