As though the existing smartphones don’t have a shorter battery life, Sharp is planning to make matters worse. With full HD and 2K display panels already draining precious smartphone battery, Sharp’s 4K display on a smartphone would create a whole new era of smartphones in future.

The cold war of the fastest smartphone is running the mobile phone industry with rival tech giants competing with each other in the chipset arena. Not too long ago, the display was also the area where the smartphone companies were fighting for space. With LG, Samsung and a few other tech giants already shipping their flagships with 2K display screens, it is pretty obvious for someone to target higher. And Sharp just crossed the line ahead of the others.

Sharp recently boasted about their first 5.5-inch smartphone display sporting a 4K display. The panel features a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels with a whopping 806ppi pixel density. We guess one would need a microscope to find pixels on it. The 5.5-inch UHD IGZO panel will only be seen on Chinese smartphones for now.

Does it make sense for a smartphone to have a resolution as high as UHD where the human eye cannot even make out the difference? Yes the quality of the display would be immaculate for sure, but the amount of strain on the processor and battery and most importantly the exorbitant price, would definitely receive a negative feedback, for now.
