WhatsApp just received a new design change
WhatsApp’s new update gets a design change, loads of updates included
WhatsApp seems to be updating its app for Android users faster than usual. The new update is available on the WhatsApp website and it sports a number of design changes—good ones. After the WhatsApp voice calling feature, the new app seems to be update with Material Design implementations and the eye-candy design is welcoming.
So what are the differences between the older look and the new design? Check out each of the screenshots where the old look is placed on the right and the new design is shown on the left.
First up is the overall look of the app. The main page has a design change, which is immediately noticeable. The title is larger, the tabs are merged and the WhatsApp logo is done away with. Display pictures are rounded as compared to the older square tiles. The new message icon is changed to a newer, neater icon.
The contacts tab has a similar look to the above, and a little change in it too. The add contact icon is changed to a new one, again the WhatsApp logo is out, display pictures are rounded and the search icon is also changed.
If you look at the group chat or individual chat, the left icon near the display picture is changed with a neater arrow icon and a rounded display picture too. The chat bubbles are elegant with a more 3D realistic design. The attachment pin icon has changed too. Fonts used are a little changed as compared the older larger one. Also inside the chat bubble, if there is a linked YouTube video, a small thumbnail of the video is displayed. If the person is sending multiple messages one after the other, they are clubbed into a single bubble with a time and date stamp.

The message typing block has merged with the camera icon with a chat-bubble style. The audio (mic) icon is rounded, large and separated with different colour. The slide to cancel audio animation where the mic is thrown into the dustbin is done away with.
The group chat info has become more prominent. The group or display picture for the group is now larger and occupies 1/4th of the display screen as compared to the older style the group information.
Lastly, the menu overlay for the chat is now different too. ‘Clear conversation’ is replaced by ‘Clear chat’, ‘Email conversation’ is now replaced by ‘Email chat’.
