ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar listed on 100 Most Influential People list

Mumbai: Chanda Kochhar, Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank, is the only Indian woman named in the list of ‘The 100 Most Influential People’ in the world by Time magazine. Chanda Kochhar has managed to be quite an influential personality in the private banking sector. Since 1984, Chanda Kocchar has been able to expand the retail-banking sector in India, with a clear perspective and vision.

Chanda Kochhar was appointed as the Director and CEO of ICICI Bank in 2009 and is responsible for the Bank’s diverse operations in India and overseas. Chanda Kochhar has been taking up the banking and retail initiative for the ICICI Group since 1984. She even headed the infrastructure finance and corporate banking business in ICICI Limited in 1990.

In 2000, Chanda Kochhar also focused on building the nascent retail business, with strong focus on technology, innovation and process reengineering. Between 2006 and 2007, Chanda Kochhar also led the Bank’s corporate and international banking businesses, thus contributing to the global expansion by Indian companies. Deutsche Bank co-CEO, Anshu Jain also appreciated Chanda Kochhar and said ‘he is yet to find anything she can’t do’. “Her calm, soft-spoken and understated demeanor belies her strength of conviction and clarity of thought,” said Anshu  Jain in the Chanda Kochhar’s profile written in the magazine.

She also chairs the boards of the Bank’s principal subsidiaries, which include India’s leading private sector life and general insurance companies. As stated by Anshu Jain,  ‘When Chanda speaks, people listen carefully’, this in itself proves her stand in the banking sector not only in India , but also all over the world.

In the past, Chanda Kochhar has also been one of the most influential personalities in the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business’, 'Best CEO – Private Sector, Most Powerful Women of Asia – Pacific' and '50 Most Powerful Women in Business' lists.
