Srinagar: Separatist leader, Massarat Aalam Bhat, was arrested by police from his Srinagar residence on Friday morning, days after pro-Pakistan slogans were raised and that country's national flag was waved at a rally here he was part of.

Police said he has been arrested for his “seditious activities” as a case under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and various provisions of Ranbir Panel Code stands registered against him at Budgam police station near here.

Massarat arrest led to rumours that the BJP had threatened to pull out of the coalition government unless the 44-year-old separatist was put behind the bars immediately.

However, Peoples  Democratic Party denied it buckled under pressure from its coalition partner and said that the law has taken its course as was promised by Chief Minister  Mufti Muhammad Sayeed on Thursday.
