Whenever a Mani Ratnam film releases it always generates curiosity. After a few average films, the director has come up with the romantic film Ok Bangaram, a dubbed version of the Tamil film Ok Kanmani.
Dulquer Salmaan, son of Malayalam superstar Mammootty is the lead actor, while Nithya Menon is the female lead. A.R. Rahman composed the music while Dil Raju is the producer of the Telugu version.
Adi aka Aditya Kantamaneni (Dulquer Salman) and Tara meet at a wedding function and fall in love. Adi stays as a paying guest with an elderly couple while Tara is an architect. Both want to go abroad and settle there. And though they are in love, they do not want to get married and decide to have a live-in relationship.
The crux of the story is how they take the relationship further. Whether they decide to marry or go abroad separately to work.Though some veteran directors like Mani Ratnam fails occasionally at the box-office, they never lose their touch, especially when it comes to love stories.
Mani Ratnam is regarded as the master of filmmaking and he has proved it once again with Ok Bangaram. His films are always technically brilliant irrespective of the result at the box office. This film too falls in the same category and it has some good technical people involved. Renowned cameraman P.C. Sreeram handles the camera and he has captured some brilliant shots of Mumbai.
And then there is A.R. Rahman, who has once again come up with a mesmerising background score. Nithya Menon has already proved to be a talented actress and in this film she has delivered another brilliant performance and looked lovely in the film. Though this is not an official debut for Dulquer Salman, this is his first film releasing in Telugu. He too comes up with an outstanding performance. Actor Nani lent his voice for this young actor and it suited him perfectly.
Prakash Raj underplayed his character and for a change, it was a pleasant one. All we can say is that Mani Ratnam is back with a bang with this breezy, romantic and heart-touching love story.
