Mystic Mantra: A golden day
Akshaya Tritiya is a great day for people wanting to embark on their spiritual journey
Today is Akshaya Tritiya, considered to be one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. This is the day of the year when the sun and the moon are believed to be shining at their brightest. Hence, there is a belief that buying or wearing silver (signifying the bright moon) and gold (signifying the bright sun) is auspicious on this day. As is any new venture that starts on this day. Which is why marriages, new business ventures, investments in gold/silver, etc. are done on this day.
Cosmic forces are extremely active on this day making Akshaya Tritiya is a great day for people wanting to embark on their spiritual journey. It is important that one should not forget the main purpose of human birth — spiritual evolution and enlightenment.
There is a story of Lord Krishna and his friend Sudama. On the day of Akshaya Tritiya, Sudama wanted some financial help from Lord Krishna and so, as a courtesy gesture, he took a handful of beaten rice (poha) to offer to Lord Krishna. Ince he reached Lord Krishna’s palace, Sudama felt ashamed. But Krishna went ahead and took it from Sudama and relished it and treated his friend like a king. Experiencing this hospitality, Sudama felt grateful and humbled and dropped the idea of asking for financial help.
But as soon as he reached his home, he was shocked to see that his hut had transformed into a palace, all his family members were in royal robes and everything in the house was new and luxurious. Sudama immediately realised that all this was a boon from Lord Krishna. Without even asking, Lord Krishna knew why Sudama had come to him.
