A youth named Yousuf has been detained by the CISF personnel
Hyderabad: High drama was witnessed on board an Air India Dubai-Hyderabad flight on Tuesday after a youth reportedly threatened to hijack the aircraft.
A youth named Yousuf, 35, was flying from Dubai when he initiated conversation with an airhostess on the flight. During conversation, he used the words hijack and hostage following which the airhostess alerted the pilot of the aircraft.
Police inspector T Sudhakar, attached to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, said Yousuf, the accused, worked with a drilling company in Dubai and was coming to Hyderabad to meet his family.
The pilot alerted the Air Traffic Control about the incident and the aircraft landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Upon landing, the youth was swiftly taken into custody by the CISF personnel and was taken to the Cyberabad police headquarters.
"He was requesting the crew member to pose for a selfie and tried to engage her in a conversation, to which she objected," said the police officer.
According to Cyberabad Commissioner of Police, C V Anand, the youth was trying to flirt with the airhostess. When she refuted his overtures, the youth decided to scare her and played a prank, threatening to hijack the aircraft.
Police registered a case under sections 504 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, and statements conducive to public mischief).
