Gang busted, 40 gold chains recovered

Hyderabad: A team of the Hayathnagar and Meerpet police busted a seven-member robbery gang by arresting all of them on Tuesday. A gram panchayat employee is also among those held. Police recovered 40 gold chains worth Rs 9 lakh, and few vehicles from them. The gang had indulged in chain snatching and thefts, and stolen vehicles from houses on outskirts of the city and places in Mahbubnagar district.
According to the police, the gang targeted victims in Meerpet, Hayathnagar, Medipally and Kothur of Mahbubnagar districts. “They committed around 23 offences of snatching, thefts and vehicle lifting,” said a senior police official from Hayathnagar.
The main accused, Biongarala Banarji, who is a system operator in Abdullapurmet gram panchayat, is involved in eight offences and mobilised the gang. The police caught them during while patrolling, and they confessed to the offences during interrogation. Police said that they used 11 bikes, which they had stole from the outskirts of the city, for chain snatching. All of them were sent to judicial remand.
