Governor P Sathasivam decries lop-sided technological progress

Educational institutions should be transformed as centres of excellence

Kottayam: Governor P Sathasivam has said that  technological advancements without a human face would  create social imbalance. He was speaking after conferring the Doctor of Science (DSC) award on  former ISRO chairman  K. Radhakrishnan at the MG University on Tuesday.

“Technology and the progress of mankind are not contradictory, but will complement each other. Real education will ensure the complete development of the personality. Educational institutions should be transformed as centres of excellence.  Teaching should not be relegated to a mere verbal exercise. Teachers should give life to the words and ideas they express with their life and actions,” he said.

Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb spoke about the initiatives to transform the state into an international hub of education. The government had  earmarked  Rs 1074. 62 crore  this year for it,   he added.

In his acceptance speech, Dr   Radhakrishnan said that it  was the work culture and the striving for excellence that had helped the growth of ISRO  into a world-class space research organisation.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Dr Babu Sebastian read out the credentials of  Dr  Radhakrishnan. PVC Dr Sheena Shukkoor and other officials of the university  were also present on the occasion.
