AA Hussain & Company happy with closing sale
They have been able to sell 35 per cent of their stock in the last three week
Hyderabad: At the now shut A.A. Husain & Co. book shop, Asif Husain is still hoping to liquidate his stock with the help of the 50 per cent discount sale that is underway. And the sale has helped immensely as they have been able to sell 35 per cent of their stock in the last three weeks.
“People bought a lot of Agatha Christies, Sidney Sheldons and Jeffery Archers. But what I was really happy to see was the sale of classics such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Emily Bronte. Since anthologies were affordable, some people picked up complete works of their favourite authors,” says Mr Husain, who has been working amongst books for nearly two decades since he took over from his father in 1996.
Children’s books have also seen brisk sales as a lot of old customers came for a final visit with their children and grandchildren.
“Most of the sales I have made of late are of children’s books. Some school libraries also came by to pick up children’s books, especially encyclopedias because they were on a flat 50 per cent discount, making them very cheap,” says Mr Husain.
Despite having to end his family business, Mr Husain believes that observing ‘World Book Day’ does help bring awareness about the habit of reading books.
