Tamil Nadu government announces 6 per cent dearness allowance hike for staff
The move that will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 1222.76 crore on the state exchequer

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced a six per cent increase in dearness allowance for its employees, a move that will incur an additional expenditure of Rs1222.76 crore on the state exchequer.A statement from the secretariat said that the hike will be implemented with retrospective effect from January 1, 2015 and will apply to employees in local administration, teaching and non-teaching staff in all government aided educational institutions, village assistants, anganwadi workers and others.
The DA increase will result in a hike of Rs 366 for an employee and will range up to Rs 4,620 in the monthly wages and a total of 18 lakh staff and pensioners will benefit, the statement said. “The DA hike is a good news for all the 18 lakh government staff and their family members and the state had always treating its employees on par with the Central government staff and we express our gratitude for the government”, said Tansa president J. Ganesan.
“Issues related to all the government staff are now periodically addressed. There has been improvement with the agitating transport department workers and the strike announced by noon-meal workers have been thwarted and their issues are also being addressed”, a highly placed government official said.
