Yokohama city to develop Kakinada as a smart city
CM asks Japanese delegation to improve connectivity to port city

Rajahmundry: Japan’s second largest city Yokohama intends to collaborate with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop Kakinada port city as a smart city. A delegation led by Yokohama port president Masayuki Tak-ashima met the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad on Wednesday and gave a presentation on development of Yokohama city.
The delegation informed the Chief Minister about various components in development of the city including city centre enhancement project, Kanazawa Reclamation project, Konoku new town, subway lines, transportation and underground expressway projects. They stressed the need for consultation and participation of the people as an essential component for development of the city.
The Yokohama City Council officials informed the CM that they would visit port city Kakinada soon and identify areas of collaboration with the government. Responding to them, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the port city has abundant water and energy and added that there is a four lane road connectivity between Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.
Mr Naidu said that the state government was planning to develop a beach road connecting three states and a union territory which would establish connectivity between two ports.
The CM sought the expertise of the delegation to revamp the city and handle waste management, tourism, enha-ncing infrastructure, civic amenities and reducing pollution levels. He also asked the delegation to help the state government to develop hardware park at Kakinada.
