‘Depressed’ farmer in Punjab swallows coins, nails
The farmer has undergone 240 procedures to remove objects, but some still remain
Bathinda, Punjab: A man from Punjab’s Bhatinda, complaining of stomach ache left doctors shocked when they discovered he had hundreds of foreign bodies in his stomach.
Rajpal Singh, 34, had swallowed 140 coins, 150 nails and a handful of nuts, bolts and batteries, as reported in the Daily Mail. Over a period of three years, he had also downed screws, nails and magnets.
Singh revealed that he used to wash down coins and metals with fruit juice or milk.
He also claimed that due to family problems he had slipped into depression and got hooked onto the ‘weird’ habit.
Doctors have carried out more than 240 endoscopy procedures to remove the objects. However, some still remain.
According to doctors, who have managed to remove most of the objects, some sharp injects and coins still remain in his stomach.
“His body is too fragile to sustain another operation now so we plan to operate again in about seven days and remove the remaining objects,” Dr Gagandeep Goyal, a gastroentologist at a local hospital, was quoted saying.
