The Indo-Swiss pair was beaten in straight sets

Stuttgart: Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis’ unbeaten run came to an end after the pair lost in the first round of Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Thursday.

The Indo-Swiss pair was outplayed 6-3, 6-3 by Petra Martic and Stephanie Vogt who were playing their first game as a team.

Before coming into this tournament, Sania and Martina had won three titles in a row which powered them to World No 1 in rankings.

Their triumphs in Indian Wells, Miami Open and WTA Family Circle Cup had made them favourites in this competition as well. However, they were crashed out of the tournament following a shock defeat in the first round.

Sania’s Swiss partner Martina Hingis struggled with back injury and got treated during the match.
