Thrissur Pooram festivities unveiled

Famous fireworks display will be held on April 27

THRISSUR: The Thrissur Pooram festivities  began on Thursday with the ceremonial ‘kodiyettam’ (hoisting of flag) at the quadrangles of 10 participating temples.

Flags were hoisted at the Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu temples at 12.10 am  and 12.10 pm respectively. Flag-hoisting ceremonies were also held at Kanimangalam Sastha, Karamukku Bhagavathy, Neythalakavu Bhagavathy, Lalur Bhagavathy, Panamukkampalli Sastha, Choorakkottukavu Durga, Ayyanthole Karthyayani and Chembukkavu Karthyayani temples.

There will be special  programmes in all the participating temples during the remaining days till the Pooram  on April 29. The preparations for the Pooram are  in full swing at various places and the main participants are the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi devaswoms.

The firework display will be held on April  27.  The  Pooram exhibition, through which the  devaswoms raise  funds for the festival, has already begun at the Thekkinakadu Maidan.
