New Delhi: The last time Delhi Daredevils won at the Feroz Shah Kotla was against the Mumbai Indians a couple of seasons ago. Perhaps fittingly, they broke their nine-match losing streak at home against the same opponents on Thursday evening. It was a solid performance by the Daredevils, as they dominated with both bat and ball to script victory and brought their inconsistent Indian Premier League campaign back on track in front of a vociferous home crowd.

Chasing a 191-run target, Mumbai could only manage 153/9 in their 20 overs. The victory catapulted Delhi to the fourth spot on the IPL table with six points from as many matches. Mumbai continue to languish at the bottom. The Daredevils were boosted by some superb bowling by spinner Imran Tahir who captured three wickets. All his wickets came in the 17th over when he dismissed Hardik Pandya, Ambati Rayudu and  Mitchell McClenaghan to send the visitors’ run chase into terminal decline.

The visitors were given a brisk start by Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel. But they did not last long.Skipper Rohit Sharma was the only Mumbai batsman to put up a semblance of a fight. But the pressure of keeping with the run rate perhaps got to him as he tried to smash Nathan Coulter-Nile for a big one, but only managed to hit a skier to Shahbaz Nadeem. Mumbai continued to lose wickets at regular intervals after that and it was only a matter of time before their innings folded.
