Kochi: A section of netizens has chosen to counter Facebook’s attempt to push Internet.org which they fear will kill internet neutrality by calling a Facebook Blackout day on Friday.

A Facebook event ‘Facebook Blackout’ has asked the supporters of internet neutrality to show their protest by deactivating the account from 12.05 am to 11.55 pm on Friday.

“Facebook has been violating net neutrality through its internet.org initiative, which is a very dangerous thing. We need to send a clear message to Facebook that this will not be tolerated,” a post on the page said.

“Deactivate your Facebook account for one day on April 24, which is also last date to reply to TRAI on net neutrality debate.”

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s attempt to defend internet.org initiative had received widespread rebuke from the net community as well as political parties in India. Facebook has a user base of 11.2 crore in India.
